Sports Management
Sports management professionals act as agents for professional athletes by promoting them in the public eye and negotiating with their teams in order to get them the best salary possible. Sports managers and agents may also work to market their athletes to commercial advertisers and publishing companies in order to obtain book deals, TV spots, and magazine ads. Many universities are beginning to offer bachelor and even master's degrees in sports management, which typically include coursework in sports culture, marketing, and public relations. Due to the attractive nature of the business, competition for careers in this field is expected to remain intense. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the median annual wage for sports representatives in 2008 was $91,250.
