18 Scholarships for Business Students

If you are hoping to attend business school but are struggling to find a way to pay, you are not alone. Overall, more than 60 percent of students attending college in the United States get some form of financial aid, according to the American Council on Education, with 8.3 percent of undergraduate students receiving private scholarships worth an average of $2,796 per year.

For those hoping to attend business school specifically, competition for top scholarships can be especially competitive, which is why it is imperative that students apply for a wide cross section of scholarships from a variety of sources. Below is a sampling of scholarships targeted directly at business students to help you get started on the hunt:

1. Golden Key is an honor society with more than 270 chapters across the country, awarding scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students earning degrees in business.

2. The Government Finance Officers Association offers three scholarships annually to undergraduate and graduate business students with a specific interest in finance or accounting.

3. The National Business Association awards five $1,500 scholarships annually to association members and their children.

4. Formed in 1969, the National Society of Accountants has been awarding scholarships to accounting students for the past 40 years. In 2008, the group handed out 44 scholarships to qualified accounting students.

5. The international business honor society Delta Mu Delta awards 25 scholarships worth a combined $30,000 a year to qualified business students across the country.

6. The Lagrant Foundation provides 15 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations at accredited universities.

7. Over the past 20 years, the United Agribusiness League has awarded more than $600,000 to business students pursuing careers in management, government, market development, international sales, and foreign trade.

8. The American Accounting Association offers a $2,500 scholarship for students entering a doctoral business program with an emphasis on auditing.

9. The Forte Foundation says its mission is to increase the number of women in business, by awarding scholarships to those pursuing MBAs at participating business schools.

10. Local Chamber of Commerce organizations across the country offer hundreds of scholarships, many for those interested in business or a related field. To find out more, contact your local Chamber of Commerce and ask about scholarship opportunities.

11. Established in 1966, the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management aims to help African American men get ready for management positions, offering full merit-based fellowships for MBA students who are African American, Hispanic American, and Native American.

12. The National Business Aviation Association aims to promote professional development in business aviation careers by offering a number of tuition reimbursement and monetary scholarships for enrolled students.

13. Founded in 1970, the National Black MBA Association works to build a "solid pipeline of support" for members by awarding more than $500,000 in scholarships each year to MBA and undergraduate business students.

14. Beta Alpha Psi aims to give recognition for scholastic achievement in the business information field by awarding a number of national and regional scholarships each year.

15. The American Statistical Association offers a handful of scholarships and memorial awards to accomplished business students interested in a career in the field of statistics.

16. With 6,000 members nationwide, the National Society of Hispanic MBAs prepares its members for leadership positions in business, and offers more than $1 million worth of scholarships to Hispanic students who are pursing MBA degrees.

17. D.W. Simpson & Company offers two $1,000 scholarships each year to qualified undergraduate students entering their senior year of study in actuarial science.

18. The scholarship website Scholarships.com offers a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified business school student each year.
