American InterContinental University Testimonial by Katherine Plebanski

American InterContinental University
A.A. in Business Administration, 2007

My name is Katherine Plebanski. I am a 38-year-old mother of five girls from Chicago, IL. On July 7, 2007, I graduated from American InterContinental University Online with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.

I chose online classes because I work full time and with that and a family, going to conventional college would be difficult and take time away from my children. Online classes allowed me the convenience and flexibility that I needed to manage my time and not detract from any aspect of my life. I was able to work at my own pace and everything I needed was right there, from class schedules to a virtual library to do research as well as technical, financial, and moral support.

Unlike traditional schools, I worked in the comfort of my own home. I didn’t have to go out in the cold, lug heavy books around, fight traffic, and was still able to interact with other students within the same area of schooling, as well as professors when I needed help. AIU also had a professional staff to assist with every aspect of my educational needs.

One of the classes that I was required to take was college algebra. I dropped out of high school and my first experience seeing algebraic equations, to me, was like trying to read Russian. The professor of that class noticed my grade was on a downward slide and e-mailed me to ask if I needed help. With a little push from her and pages of information, I was able to pull my grade up.

I think the best experience was being able to learn more about how business works. We learned about ethics and some laws pertaining to business, target audiences, and how to make presentations. I strongly feel that if I was placed in the work force, I could be an exceptional asset to any company and could perform just as good if not better than someone who had their education in an actual classroom setting.

The absolute best advantage of online classes was my children being able to see me studying and managing my time. They saw how important good grades were to me and that encouraged them to take a more serious approach to their own schooling. It was an exciting experience for all of us and it was a joy to see the pride in their eyes upon my graduation. We all implement what I learned at AIU, not only myself in the workforce, but my children and I in our everyday lives. We all have better time management skills and are more confident. I take challenges head on with what I learned and my leadership skills have also improved.

In conclusion, I am still active in online education and have tried going to a traditional college. I will graduate in September 2013, possibly sooner, with my B.S. in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Psychology from another online university and plan on going on to pursue my Masters Degree as well.

I would gladly recommend AIU to anyone who wants to better themselves with a top notch education but doesn’t have the time and/or energy to sit in a classroom. They truly do work around your life.
